Sofia municipality will invest 1.5 million leva in the first stage of a new sports complex in the capital, which will be located in the Zone B5 borough in the Vuzdazhdane park, mayor Yordanka Fandukova said on May 30 2011.

The facility will accommodate several football pitches, tennis courts, beach volleyball courts, an outdoor fitness centre and an outdoor playground for children.

Construction work on the complex will start in July, but the municipality is yet to select a contractor for the project. The complex, to be built on an area of 3.2ha, will be owned by municipal firm Sportna Sofia.

The city authorities plan to complete the construction of the playgrounds within the complex this year, while the administrative building and the parking area will be completed in 2012, Fandukova said.
