Since the beginning of 2006 over EUR 843,000 has been invested in the airport of Varna, the facility's head Yanko Yankov has announced. The Airport opened a new, fifth terminal on Monday, welcoming passengers flying from Moscow. Over EUR 80,000 have been invested in the new terminal alone, Yankov boasted before Transport Minister Petar Mutafchiev and Interior Minister Rumen Petkov.
Internal reorganizations at the airport have increased the capacity of departure terminals by over 40% with an investment of EUR 9,000.
The seaside airport's parking has also been enlarged and equipped with a system that allows security to check whether the vehicles have been reported missing or are wanted by the police. Passengers will also be happy to know that the facility now sports a brand new fast-food joint, Yankov added.
Varna airport has serviced 6,486 planes since January 1, with the highest percentage of tourists - 22% - coming from Germany.
